Over 7,000 islands are part of the Caribbean. Twenty-three countries are included in the North American continent. The total land mass is more than 21 million sq kilometres and it is home to more than 600 million people. This represents more than 7.5% of the world’s population.
Over 85% of the population is found in 3 countries, Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The climate varies greatly as might be expected for a continent stretching from the Arctic in the north to the tropics in the south.
North America is a very popular tourist destination. It ranks third after Europe and Asia. It offers something for everyone. Popular places include the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Niagara Falls on the US- Canada border, Mexico’s ancient Tenochtitlan ruins and Yellowstone National Park. The USA and Canada are havens for national park campers, while the big cities offer a very vibrant night life 24/7. Disneyland is always a big attraction for children.
Over 65 million people visited New York in 2019 (pre-pandemic). Of these, more than 13 million were international visitors.
