Sri Lanka achieved WHO malaria free certification in 2016.

Sri Lanka is a popular destination for Australian travellers. Major tourist attractions are found throughout the country.  Group travel is common with many preferring chauffeured cars and minibuses.  Backpacking is made easy by a wide range of budget accommodation options. Sri Lankan born students or migrants are often travelling home to visit family and friends. Many, now Australian residents, are travelling with their children who have never lived in Sri Lanka.

Health advice will vary according to the reason for travel (holiday, work, volunteering, visiting friends or relatives), accommodation (5 star resort, Airbnb, home stay) length of stay, time of year (wet or dry season) and location (urban or rural).
